The
emotional trauma for family members and workmates after a workplace death can
lead to isolation, stress, health problems and the breakdown of relationships.
Families may find themselves overwhelmed by the complex legal and investigative
systems that confront them. Typically, their loved one’s employer
withdraws from the family as the employer seeks to minimize liability.
Bereaved families may find themselves in court pitted against highly-paid legal
teams from large corporations. The investigative regulatory bodies may also seem reluctant to liaise with families during their investigations, which compounds the family’s feelings of frustration while seeking answers as to how the death occurred. IDSA can provide valuable information about the processes and procedures that take place after someone dies at work, and can provide practical backup in a compassionate way. |
